Overview
The task given during the 7-week placement was to investigate long-duration energy storage and write a report presenting the recommendations for the most suitable for Centrica to invest in. Day-to-day involved meeting with various colleagues at Centrica, including our line manager and reaching out to other streams for assistance. Aside from that, regular sessions for all summer placement students were held such as #IAmRemarkable.
Skills
Yes developed numerous skills including time-management, organisation, communication and interpersonal skills. Presentation skills were also improved through several opportunities. I also gained new knowledge of the capabilities of excel.
Business Insight
It was easy to learn about the business and everyone was very friendly and willing to share the roles they had completed and what that entailed. Information about the business was easily found and new updates were shared on the intranet and occasionally through email.
Culture
The general atmosphere was very welcoming and friendly with everyone contacted willing to give up time to help with our project, or to teach more about the capabilities of excel. During a site visit, high-up members of staff gave up time to talk to us and answer questions as we came up with them. There seems to be a culture of trying things with mistakes not mattering as long as you learn.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the placement. My team was highly engaging and willing to put the work in, which in itself was enjoyable to research and relevant. Supporting leaders were quick to respond and happy to answer any queries. The use of buddies was also very effective for answering any questions, especially low-level that you felt you didn't want to be seen wasting peoples time with.
Yes
