Overview
Over the week we were acquainted with all the different departments of Bloomberg such as Global Data and Sales and Analytics. Every day we had sessions with people from these different departments. We also had sessions where we learned skills such as navigating and using the Terminal and answering clients on their issues. We were also given a project to work on as teams, for which we were allocated time every day.
Skills
I have developed my ability to use the Bloomberg Terminal efficiently. Additionally, I improved my skills in researching, finding data and producing insight from it. I have also networked quite extensively with other interns and experts from the various departments inside the company.
Business Insight
That was the whole point of the week so in that sense it was perfect. Interns learned about all aspects of Bloomberg. No prior knowledge was needed. Some of the successful interns from the insight week got an offer for a fast route to summer internships.
Culture
The company culture is very friendly and supportive. Not only can you constantly ask for advice on various issues you might face but there are events such as a virtual escape room.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight. I learned new skills, experienced the work culture in one of the most important companies in finance and networked with many new people.
Yes
Make sure that you prepare very well for the video interview stage. There is a big chance they might throw you a curveball question. The real interview stage was very pleasant since they want to find out mainly if you are a good fit for the role - competency-based questions. For Day 1 it would be hugely beneficial to have already done the BMC certificate. If you have not, they will give you access to it a couple of weeks before the insight week - do it. Additionally, there is a course called Terminal Basics, which is amazing if you have not worked with the Terminal in a long time. Overall, do not be nervous as everyone is very supportive, no prior financial knowledge is assumed and it is a fantastic place to experience!
