Overview
Helping with pitchbooks, discussion materials, excel and PowerPoint tasks. I had to manage responsibilities, communicate effectively, work well under pressure, work in a focused manner for long stretches and be confident in my skills and stay in a good mental place. I helped on creating comps analyses, DCFs, LBOs, AVP analyses and had my own project, for which I created a 60+ slide deck from scratch in a matter of weeks, with guidance from members of the team.
Skills
I have developed hard and soft skills, however the skills that I was most glad to improve were my ability to live in the present, manage stress well and communicate efficiently and effectively. Additionally, my excel and powerpoint skills have improved and my confidence has undeniably benefitted from this internship - partly due to the competitive nature of IBD and due to the fulfilment you get from seeing yourself be able to work for long hours on end.
Responsibilities
Yes, due to the lean nature of the team I was given a lot of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I received a good amount, however I was expected to learn on my own and be a self-starter - and I very much enjoyed that.
Culture
It was good, unlike what you'd expect from Investment Banking, cool team that is efficient and helpful.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot, I was able to challenge myself and become an upgraded, improved version of myself that was able to derive fulfilment from knowing that I'm constantly trying to maximise my potential.
Yes
Be open and honest, don't come in with a hidden agenda, be open to learn and have a great attitude!
