Overview
We had scheduled sessions each day put on by the firm which varied from giving us an insight into the strategy of the firm, Practice area overviews and talks with Graduate Recruitment Partners, the Senior Partner and the Firmwide Managing Partner. We also were given tasks which were to be assessed as part of the Training Contract assessment. We were also allowed to reach out to anyone in the firm and have 'virtual coffee chats' where we could network and ask questions.
Skills
I have developed my time management skills as there is a lot to juggle over the course of two weeks. I have also developed my communication and interpersonal skills as a lot of the scheme involved networking and communicating with different people across the firm. I learnt some more technical skills required to be a trainee such as reading through commercial contracts, detail-oriented work and writing succinctly and clearly.
Business Insight
It was really helpful to see how one could progress professionally throughout the business and also the role that the Business Development teams and support staff play in the wider strategy of the firm.
Culture
The culture was phenomenal- everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to from the partners all the way to the trainees. People are important to Linklaters and it really showed throughout the scheme. The commitment to Diversity and Inclusion is very real and apparent and the consistency of this message throughout the firm made it clear that it was not tokenistic. Socials throughout the scheme reflected the vibe of the firm- friendly, fun and light-hearted.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the scheme from the work which was both challenging at times but always rewarding, to meeting the people at the firm from the Managing Partner to the Graduate Recruitment Team and the culture of the firm which is so important to me. It exceeded my expectations and I am very hopeful that I am given a Training Contract with the firm so I can become a 'Lifer' like so many of the lawyers we met during the scheme.
Yes
Be enthusiastic, ask questions and be proactive. Don't doubt yourself- Linklaters want a diverse group of lawyers so go for it!
