Overview
Working alongside developers and analysts to bring together various projects. Working with languages such as Python and SQL to conduct testing, and interacting with users to ensure the product is in scope.
Skills
Learnt project management and analyst skills. Developed on programming languages such as SQL and python in particular. Also learnt soft skills such as managing expectations and developing solid relationships that will be invaluable in my future career.
Responsibilities
Yes, was put straight into tasks that had a direct impact on users. Dealt with user - developer relationships very early on, and was involved with daily meetings where I would present my findings.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support. Was assigned a buddy within my team that was there for any quick questions or queries. A mentor scheme is in place to discuss career and personal progression over the year which was extremely useful in getting the most out of the internship. And finally having a manager to set tasks and give valuable feedback so that you could constantly improve the work being produced.
Culture
Great company to work for, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Having an approachable team means it was easy to ask questions and get involved so that you can make the most out of your internship. Despite being online there were online social and networking events which allowed you to connect with colleagues from different departments.
Your Impressions
Thoroughly enjoyed the internship, and had an incredible experience. Was interesting to be in a work environment for the first time, but the steep learning curve meant I had to adjust very quickly to the environment and the amount of support available made this easy to do.
Yes
Ensure you are ready to work hard! It is very challenging but also rewarding, so be aware that the effort you put in is what you will get out. Also network as much as possible and understand as many different areas of the bank as you can so that when you go back to education you have a better understanding of what your future career holds.
