Overview
As a business analyst I was attended many SCRUM calls each week. I learnt about what my area of the bank does, and using this information I created workflows of the systems. I was in charge of the project backlog and suggested metrics to monitor team workflow. I also spent time doing self-guided learning to brush up on my knowledge and develop my skills.
Skills
My technical knowledge improved, and I learnt a lot of new knowledge relevant to the business analyst role. I got the change to improve my communication with colleagues and other interns.
Responsibilities
From day one I was given equal responsibility to the graduate analysts.
Support & Guidance
My mentor and supervisor always made time to catch up with me and provide help when needed. Many members of the team were also very helpful and if they couldn't help they guided me to someone else who could.
Culture
Company culture was great. Everyone worked to help each other so no one had a pile up of work. I felt very included even though the internship was virtual. In general people seemed friendly and approachable.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship with the bank and my team. At times there wasn't much work as I didn't have the correct authorisations and they took longer to get approved as the internship was virtual. But this meant I had time to network and use the banks self-learning platform. However the work I was set was interesting and allowed me to learn/develop skills. It would have been nice to go to the office a few times, but the situation this year didn't allow for this.
Yes
Spend time researching the company values and culture, it really helps you find an environment you will enjoy working in. Look into careers early as I did the spring week which meant I knew more about the bank and lines of business when applying.
