    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The basic idea of the role was to support to a busy Strategic Partnerships Team. This support can range from administrative work such as organizing meetings and reaching out to client teams, to more general research or comms work. Direct Contribution: Registration of AWS opportunities to AWS Partner Network, AWS Funding Campaigns, Nordcloud Acquisition Implementation team, Maintenance of AWS Pipeline, Maintenance of Google Pipeline, ensuring the work of the alliances team is visible to GBS.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Specifically, I’ve learnt a vast amount about IBM’s role across the globe and within the tech industry as a whole. More broadly, I’ve greatly improved my Networking, Communication, IT (Excel, PowerPoint), Presentation, Leadership and Management skills (both managing time, tasks and people)

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes some, but a lot of the work with responsibility tied to it requires years of experience and understanding, so I think I was given as much responsibility as an intern would feel comfortable with.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I had some support and guidance at the start of the year, but it would have been nice to have more later on after my first manager left. I had two managers across my year and constant change within the team, I think it would have been nice to have more. It was also clear that some of the team didn't understand the Placement program or the level of understanding/work to be expected.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 4/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 2/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • In IBM as a whole, I think it's really good. Nearly everyone in the company tried to help while I was there. Culture can be difficult to read at times, especially with remote work.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the social opportunities?

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • It was good. The people I worked closest with were kind and generous. The broader team could have been friendlier but overall was good considering lockdown. Remote work definitely took away from the experience, but I think that's for every placement.

  • Please rate the future employment prospects at IBM
  • 5/5

  • 7. Would you recommend IBM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • The Application process is the toughest thing I did during my placement year so my advice would be around the interview process. Come prepared with what they've asked you, think of a couple of good questions and make sure to ask them, know the basics of IBM (what it is? Current news?).
