Overview
During the two weeks of the summer scheme, I sat in two different seats. One in one of the firm’s insurance practice and one in a commercial practice. Each day was centred around a different task, with feedback delivered at the end of the day. I also met with numerous members of each department I sat in for virtual coffees, which were a helpful way of learning more about the teams and the firm.
Skills
I learned how to review a contract reviews and give advice to negotiate more favourable terms for a client. I honed my skills in drafting client-centred work products. We had a presentation workshop, which provided useful advice to improve my presentation skills. I also conducted legal research and learned how to draft legal memos, case summaries and blog posts around key judgments.
Business Insight
There were several workshops that introduced us to the different practices at the firm and the types of work associated with those practices.
Culture
The company culture was beyond friendly, and it is clear that the firm goes to great lengths to ensure that it puts its people at the heart of its operations.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the scheme. There was a good balance of work and a lot of effort was made to ensure that we got the most out of the time we spent there.
