Overview
My role includes supporting the HR function on a daily basis with administration, recruitment, employee empowerment and HR policies. Throughout my time here one of my sole focuses has been with the recruitment process, manning, interviews, job descriptions etc. One of my other main focuses is liaising with our temporary staff agencies. I assist the HR team with personnel information and implementation of HR policies, maintenance of employee files and general employee queries. I also support the application of disciplinary procedures.
Skills
I have learnt so many skills here at the Banury plant. Although it has been a very challenging year, it has been the best experience I could have asked for. I have learnt how to be very resilient in a fast paced environment. I have learnt how to adapt to change very quickly. I have learnt how to be extremely approachable especially with different nationalities. I have learnt about time management and how to prioritise certain tasks.
Responsibilities
During my placement I was left without management for a period of time so a lot of the HR queries came to me directly. Although this was very challenging, it gave me complete autonomy and helped me absorb and learn so much not just about HR but about the automotive industry. I have enjoyed the responsibility and I have enjoyed the trust you have to put forward your own ideas and use your own initiative in the workplace.
Support & Guidance
At the beginning of my placement I did receive a lot of support however the work I was doing I did not always see why I was doing it. As my placement has gone on, I have received more autonomy and have actually done stuff that the business needs. A lot of my job role has been to do with the recruitment process and the manning. I have really enjoyed problem solving and using my own initiative.
Culture
The company culture is really great and is an atmosphere that does suit my general personality. Although at times it is a challenging environment to be in, overall it is a really lovely, fun place to work. I was always up for a challenge and I like problem solving and when things go wrong. I have learnt to be resilient and think on my feet, which I will continue to love and learn as I move forward in my HR career.
Your Impressions
Overall I really enjoyed this placement. I have learnt a lot more than I ever thought I would have. I started here confident but still nervous about how little I knew about HR and I now feel like I have a genuine passion building for the HR function. I am really eager now and cannot wait for my next HR role whatever industry or company that is in. I have had a real life experience here and felt like my job was a lot more than a student role.
Yes
I would say that new people need to be very open minded about the environment and know that they will need to be resilient. This is a really fast paced environment and no day is ever the same, so you need to ensure that you learn to just adapt to change rather than trying to stick to a way of doing something. Ensure you are prepared and competitive and you will be great here. and
