Overview
• Constant IT support for users whether that be to Banbury site or Coventry site. • Making sure KPI’s are met regarding Security indicators at a minimum 95%+. But as a target I have tried to make this constantly as close to 100% as possible (and achieving this overall). • Maintaining patch status on user machines and industrial machines, getting these all to 0 patches when possible without affecting production. • Maintain and control the CCTV systems and cameras to make sure we get all the footage we can in case there is an incident we need to review. • Involvement in any new IT systems implementation. • Building setups and moving setups (from desk to desk). • Keeping up with charity events and trying to organize fun ways to raise money for the selected charity.
Skills
Before working in Faurecia, I had previous skills with working in customer service, so I already had basic soft skills and could communicate effetely. However, putting these soft skills into a technical communications skill, I found a lot harder. This meaning I found it difficult to translate the technical talk to someone who didn’t understand. Although as I persisted throughout the placement, I found these a lot easier and improved my professionalism while doing so. I have also learned even further on how vital it is that you multitask As well as prioritizing tasks. Finally I have gained lots of technical knowledge I wouldn't of learnt in a classroom and also had the chance to put some of this knowledge into action.
Responsibilities
I was given large amounts of responsibility and made to feel like a real valued member of the IT Team at Banbury. I have been involved in many different projects from using Augmented Reality and training other users on this. I have also been involved with many production related tasks and had the chance to use the production server IDPS. Finally I have also been involved in the use of RFID to help logistics of our Kanban system between our warehouses for parts.
Support & Guidance
Throughout my year placement I have received massive amount of support and guidance from the other members within the IT team. They noticed at the start, areas I needed to improve and gradually give me more an more responsibility as and when I was ready. I have also received support and guidance from other departments within Banbury for example Human resources, have been incredibly helpful throughout my placement during difficult covid times and certain difficult situations with production.
Culture
The Banbury plant over the last year has had some crisis points in related to one of our productions lines due to the amount of operators who were leaving and not being replaced. So as a result during these times the atmosphere was a very tense and stressful but at the same time it was rewarding as resolutions had to be found quicker and was able to understand a lot more about the plant from a production stance.
Your Impressions
The placement has been an amazing opportunity for myself and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It has given me industry experience and knowledge within the automotive sector and will be something that I know will definitely help me in the future. I have learnt large amount of technical knowledge that I wouldn't of been able to learn in a classroom and been able to get involved with different technologies and this has kept me engaged and really enjoyed the experience.
Yes
I would highly recommend they apply for the placement as it is a great company who value there employees. This placement I feel would give you more knowledge and experience against others in the industry due too the wide range of tasks you will undertake and the amount of responsibility you will be given. Speaking for the IT team at Banbury, you are made to feel apart of the teams and highly valued, alongside given constant support throughout.
