Overview
I was an intern on the Commodity Structured Trade Finance team. On a daily basis, I have been able to gain a deep understanding of credit analysis as well as exposure to clients in the commodities space. As a summer analyst, I have studied financial statements of clients to draw conclusions. I have been able to get involved in client meetings which has helped me understand how MUFG can help their clients. MUFG has a huge focus on ESG so I have helped out in some ESG related projects. Overall, every day is interesting!
Skills
I have learnt many skills such as how to distil complex pieces of information into smaller readable chunks so it can be easily understood by team members, clients, and others across the Bank. The training provided by MUFG has helped enhance my financial market and product knowledge. As the training was tailor-made, I was able to understand the different products that MUFG offer. My excel ability has also improved significantly over the past 10 weeks!
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility from day! There is a huge client focus in MUFG and as an intern, you are exposed to clients daily. Initially, I was helping out with credit analysis for clients but by the end of my internship, I was doing financial analysis and drafting documents on my own. Everyone is keen to give you exposure to the work that they do. At MUFG you are given responsibility so you gain knowledge!
Support & Guidance
Every intern is given a line manager and buddies for support and guidance. My line manager and my buddies were so helpful and friendly! They were happy to help me and give advice that is career-related as well as general advice. The Early Careers team also checked on interns regularly to make sure that everything is going well! Overall, MUFG has given me a lot of support and guidance throughout the duration of my internship!
Culture
MUFG's culture is really friendly and welcoming! Everyone is willing to set aside time to speak to interns about their team and the work that they do. MUFG has a really flat structure which means you have an opportunity to speak to people such as the head of GCIB and the CFO. I thoroughly enjoyed the culture and MUFG and I believe that they are the perfect cultural fit for everyone who is motivated!
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and it was really enriching! I was exposed to many areas of banking and many clients! The friendly people made this internship amazing. I also really enjoyed the different social events conducted by HR which allowed us to bond as an intern cohort despite having a hybrid internship! I have made some amazing professional connections as well as friends! I would really recommend this internship to anyone who is interested in banking as you get the best exposure and support!
Yes
My advice to anyone that is applying to MUFG is that you should be yourself and show your genuine interest! It doesn't matter what degree you are studying, as long as you are passionate about banking! It also helps to be super prepared to do some research into what division you're applying for. Your research could also cover MUFG's products and culture. Show your passion by being approachable and proactive. Enjoy the experience!
