Overview
My role within business risk and control entails providing support on a variety of on going projects. The majority of this work involves gathering feedback from key stake holders as well as developing tracking spreadsheets with the goal of getting everyone on the same page in relation to regulatory requirements. Furthermore, I had a summer presentation on a topic chosen from 4 different choices.
Skills
I learned how to conduct a strategic review, improved my technical analysis, and learning about a wide array of different regulations covering EMEA. There was also a very useful excel and powerpoint training during our induction week.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was the lead on several projects involving external vendors.
Support & Guidance
The support provided is very much about being proactive, if you need help and reach out to somebody in your team it will be there. Furthermore, we were assigned a mentor and buddy who were both very helpful in guiding me on how to integrate into the firm and with providing general career advice. On another note, everyone was incredibly generous with their time regardless of their seniority.
Culture
The people at CPB are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Everyone is very generous with their time regardless of their seniority or office location. One note to make is that it is very much up to you to be proactive in reaching out but once you do, everyone is incredibly helpful whether it is specific advice, a general catch up or providing help on a project.
Your Impressions
I had a fantastic experience at CPB and it is unlike any other American financial institution.
Yes
It is really about fit. Technical skills are a big bonus but if you are looking for an entry level position it is really about demonstrating proactiveness and demonstrating that you yourself would be as friendly and helpful if you were in a more senior position.
