    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A corporate banking analyst will often have a broad range of responsibilities that can vary over time. This may be in assisting in acquisition finance, bond issuance, but mainly revolve around approving and extending credit. You will have a heavy focus on the credit analysis of companies and determining what their current and future debt situation look like. You will often also be involved in internal process related to risk such as reviewing a company's financial soundness.

  • You will end up needing to be extremely proactive and constantly communicating both within your team as well as other product partners. The main skill you will end up developing is your financial analysis and in particular your credit analysis.

  • An internship is really about how much you make of it. If you are being highly proactive and you are taking your work seriously and you are motivated, then you will be given more trust and additional responsibility. This should be welcomed as well because there will always be someone to overlook your work and ensure you have not made a mistake,

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The team that I worked in was amazing and is a very large part of what made me enjoy my internship so much. Everyone was very patient and set up extra training sessions to help all newcomers get on their feet and really took time out of their busy days to ensure you felt confident enough with what you were doing and that you were in a position to continue by yourself.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The team that I worked in had a very positive culture. Where everyone was always working together and joking around but this never came at the cost of working really hard. Everyone was really welcoming and supportive and were truly patient and willing to properly explain things and I believe this made a huge impact in terms of my development.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I entered my internship with the notion that I would be giving up my entire summer and its enjoyment. I could not have been more wrong. With my team and the role I was in I can truly say that this has been an amazing experience not only did I get to meet lots of new people, I truly enjoyed the work I was doing and has given me a massive confidence boost in terms of knowing what I want to do in the future.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Citi
  • If you want to apply to Citi I think it is highly important to understand the meritocratic culture. You get out exactly what you put in. So if you are someone that is outgoing, motivated, and willing to work hard. I don't think you will find many better places.
