Skills
I think there was not a day in which I didn't learn something new, whether that was Citi's products, technical things specific to my team or just overall financial knowledge in general. I also feel like my existing skills - technical and soft - have improved so much over the past 2 months! The learning curve was definitely super steep
Responsibilities
Of course the main aim was to help the team in their overall activities, so our primary function was to support them. However, I really think I had the possibility of working on truly meaningful projects - whether that was bond mandates or annual reviews - which give you a lot of exposure as you are working in close contact with product teams. So i'd definitely say we has the opportunity to do actual work!
Support & Guidance
The team made every effort to make sure we (us interns) always understood the assignments and what was the purpose of the task we were working on. They even gave us weekly teach-ins on important topics for our industry/work or just if we had any general questions. Everybody always took the time to guide me and answer my questions
Culture
Company culture at Citi was everything I thought it would be. I've seen strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion and everyone I talked to was always nice and available, I had calls with people outside my team to better understand what their function was or just to ask specific questions and people always took the time to talk with me. Team-wise the culture was great, chilled and relaxed but professional at the same time
Your Impressions
My 2 months at Citi have been great. Very intense and a lot of hard work, it required excellent time management skills but the overall experience has genuinely been great. I had the opportunity to come in contact with some amazing professionals and lovely people, always felt included and never felt like the job I was doing had no importance, and needless to say the FIG team was amazing!
Yes
Put in the hard work from the beginning, do not underestimate the importance of a solid cover letter and make sure you practice the numerical tests! If you get to the interview process make sure you come across as someone nice, humble and curious. Ask questions if given the opportunity, make sure you know your reasons for applying to Citi and make sure your enthusiasm and willingness to join the bank are reflected!
