Overview
Analysis of polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) obtained from air filters and water effluents, sample originate from the Port Talbot steelworks and Scunthorpe BOC metalworks. Samples are analyzed via GC-MS to verify coke ovens are within government compliance.
Skills
I have largely developed my professional lab skills and organization skills. I have become more adept with GC-MS processes and maintenance. I have also learned important quality control procedures such as handling and creation of QC charts.
Responsibilities
I was given a good amount of work responsibilities. I was also allowed to help on other projects fairly often.
Support & Guidance
I received plenty of support during the placement, I was shadowed often during the first couple of weeks to train me on the methods at TSS.
Culture
TTS is a relaxed environment, colleagues are friendly and willing to help one another.
