Overview
On a day to day basis I will be working on site as well as completing stuff in the office. I carry out setting out, surveying and levelling on site. I assist managers/ engineer in doing quality checks on site, update and create several trackers and assist the planner with progress tracking.
Skills
I have developed my setting out/ surveying skills with the help of the engineer. Working with several package managers and the planner has expanded my knowledge greatly of how things work on site.
Responsibilities
I had a lot of support during the first few months with most of the tasks included accompanying the engineer/ manager to site and assisting in tasks. After a few months I took over setting out of the floors and was put in charge of updating several trackers and other small tasks.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support, I had two mentors at the beginning of my placement and they helped me settle down on site. Everyone in the team was helpful and ready to answer any questions I had and explain in detail anything I was unsure of.
Culture
The general atmosphere on site as well as the office was super friendly and casual. It's an informal culture and everyone makes an effort to get to know each other.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement year and gained a lot of valuable skills and connections. It has been a rewarding experience.
Yes
The application process can be long but the experience is definitely worth it, the recruitment team was also super supportive during the early days and always ready to answer any questions.
