Responsibilities
Throughout my placement, I was responsible for multiple aspects of the department. These aspects included: - Occupational Health (data, appointments and OH liaison) - Collating and reporting daily data for management meetings, - Deputising for my manager at multiple meetings when required - Assisting recruitment for management team vacancies such as competency interviews with the plant manager - Volunteering to be chairperson for the charity challenge for the year. - Taking a lead with multiple initiatives from the group such as Improvement ideas and Faurecian of the Month nominations.
Support & Guidance
Throughout my placement year, I received guidance from my team when needed. I also received support from my peers, management and both UK and international Faurecia employees when needed. This consisted of coaching when required to help improve my performance and performance management of those around me. There was also considerable guidance from my colleagues and manager within HR, consistently helping aid my development when required and helping expose me to a range of HR topics in order to help develop me into a more rounded HR professional.
Culture
The company culture is very inclusive and diverse with it being a global company and having over 100 nationalities employed across the world. Therefore, the work environment is very varied and communication can be a challenge at times but negotiable, especially with it helping that Faurecia's business language is English. The company itself originates from France so there are a lot of French-isms within the company but also multiple Japanese principles such as Kaizen. Overall, the atmosphere is very good and the working experience is generally very positive, with employees treated well and given opportunities to develop wherever possible.
Your Impressions
Overall, I greatly enjoyed my placement, making the most of the opportunity and throwing myself into the company, taking it's principles to heart, especially Kaizen (Continuous improvement). There were challenges faced during the year, making the role difficult at times but I would not change this as it helped aid my professional development. Exposing my to areas and issues I would have otherwise not experienced throughout the year. There is always room for improvement with roles and placement schemes, but the Faurecia placement scheme appears to be up there with the best! I would also consider coming back in the future, potentially for the graduate scheme, which demonstrates the positive year experienced there.
Yes
If I was to give any advice to others applying to Faurecia, it would be to apply with an open mind. Have no prior expectations and be prepared to get immersed into the Faurecia culture, if you do this then you will have a brilliant and rewarding year at Faurecia, as you will generally get more out of the year the more you put in. The placement scheme is not like university or extended university. It is an actual professional job, which requires professionalism and the right mentality, the desire to work hard and not just do the bare minimum. The more you put into the Placement year at Faurecia, the more you get out of it ultimately, but if you put the effort in then you will be rewarded greatly development-wise, both professionally and personally.
