Overview
I had to complete a self-directed project. Workload very variable and depends on the stage of the project. Bi-weekly meetings with my line manager and meetings with various stakeholders in the project.
Skills
I've learned a lot about the company and how large organisations work, as well as improving my networking skills. I've also found the internship useful for project management and developing a business sense. The internship has helped with my confidence and public speaking skills by having to present my work to senior people within the company.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was solely responsible for delivering my project and given a meaningful task within the company. I was guided by my supervisor but as the lead of the project I took the responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I had as much support as I asked for. If you needed help you'd have to ask for it but everyone was very friendly and willing to help me solve my problems. I had twice weekly check-ins with my supervisor who guided me on next steps and told me where I needed to improve.
Culture
Very friendly. Everyone is smiley and willing to help. A mentor told me this was because of the dangers traditionally involved in oil and gas that meant everyone had to support each other, because the risks were so great that failure to do so could lead to disaster. The business is less perilous now, but the friendly culture lives on!
Your Impressions
Remote working allowed me a lot of flexibility which I really enjoyed, although more in person elements would have been great. I liked immersing myself in the company and meeting all the people here.
Yes
Be confident in your abilities and talk the interviewer through your thought processes. Try not to stress too much about the assessment, as they're just trying to get a feel for your personality. Research the company and be clear about why you want to work for Shell!
