Overview
Analysis of European countries (France & Spain) looking at the potential hydrogen customers and also potential hydrogen competition in the area. Also looking at potential policies and subsidies available, and the feasibility of a hydrogen supply.
Skills
Communication skills have been developed- talking to lots of people across the globe so have to be friendly approachable and able to talk to anyone. Research skills have been developed - how to find useful information and filter what is relevant and what is not.
Responsibilities
I was given an important role and given the chance to present to large groups of people but this was always supervised so wasn't necessarily left to my own devices.
Support & Guidance
I was given a lot of support - there were two buddy schemes set up (one more work based and one network based) as well as a supervisor who I have weekly catch ups with and also a mentor who is there for advice.
Culture
Definitely friendly and everyone wants you to feel integrated and included in the Shell environment. A lovely atmosphere.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship but found that it was quite long and considering a lot of staff went on holiday so was left at a loose end for a few weeks, they should make the internship shorter so staff can go on holiday without compromising the experience of the internship as it made i disjointed. The actual content of the internship was interesting and cutting edge so that was enjoyable - just maybe 2 weeks shorter!
Yes
Make sure to specify what you are actually interested in as Shell is so broad that they would be able to find a placement that suits your individual energy interests - dont be afraid of saying what you want to do as that shows drive and initiative - not being annoying!
