Overview
The internship consists of a variety of workshops and field weeks followed by a group 'Dragon's Den' challenge on the last day. This may differ from previous years as, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the internship had a hybrid home/field structure. During the weeks working from home, the interns were introduced to the vast range of functions and channels within the sales and marketing spheres (over the course of 3 weeks) which included presentations, challenges and networking opportunity. These would all take place over Zoom. For the weeks in the field, the interns were expected to assist in field sales activities in the TT and OT sectors.
Skills
The company trained each intern's sales skills to prepare us for the field as well as channel specific skills and general knowledge. The internship also gives you the opportunity to take part in lots of group challenges thus enriching leadership, team work and presentation skills among others. There is also much opportunity for networking and improving communications skills.
Responsibilities
I think more responsibility may have been given under usual (non-Covid) circumstances. However, I was very comfortable with the amount given, for me it was just right though others may wish for more I would expect.
Support & Guidance
We had many connections to ask questions and a huge support team as well as a personal buddy and mentor. Although, I would have probably liked the mentor to have had more of a defined role or to be able to give specific advise based on my performance. However, my buddy and those running the internship were very supportive throughout.
Culture
The people at Pepsico and the other interns were among the most friendly, supportive and genuine people I have ever met. No question is off limits or too much of a burden, everyone is willing to help and involve and support you in whatever way they could.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would recommend it to anyone looking for experience in the FMCG world, sales or marketing. It appeals to such a wide range of people with differing skills and interests and really gives you an insight into the sector- probably the best career-orienting decision I have made.
Yes
Be curious, enthusiastic, genuine and open-minded. Ask as many questions as you can and don't hold off on the creativity.
