Procuring and overseeing subcontractor packages as well as weekly site mark ups and temporary labour hours
Skills
Phone communication skills, being able to analyse tender returns, reviewing monthly payment applications and work on site
Responsibilities
I was given my own packages to oversee with occasional assistance if needed which made the work I did meaningful and a better insight what the job would look like fully qualified
Support & Guidance
I had two quantity surveyors and one senior quantity surveyor to help me when i did not quite understand. Also they had a buddy system for new staff so that there was someone to help you find your feet without having to get management involved.
Culture
Generally lovely and accepting of any background/gender/age. only thing to note is that there was a lack of women on site compared to men but was treated with respect and part of a valued team
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the level of responsibility i was given and the team i was placed with helped me a lot. as well as this i loved the level of opportunities given for example doing my CSCS training as well as the Fire marshal training
Yes
Be honest and respectful. As long as you are a team player you would fit in, knowledge can be developed. The application process can be a bit confusing but if you email, the recruitment team are lovely and helpful. They definitely encourage a work life balance so do not worry if you have other hobbies.
