Overview
During this internship I was involved with daily meetings with my line manager where we would discuss the elements within my programme plan. I had constant interactions with team members via weekly meetings and I also had the opportunity to interact with other interns working in different divisions of the company. Although I was only an intern, I was given a lot of responsibility and was given my own programme plan to conduct and present.
Skills
This internship has provided me with greater organisational skills, adaptability and exposed me to current programme planning tasks and issues. It was great to improve my communication skills by interacting with multiple interns across the UK - developing both personal and professional relationships - something which has been welcomed given the COVID-19 pandemic. I have improved my time management skills as I had to balance my time between creating my programme plan and having daily interactions and meetings with team members.
Responsibilities
Despite being an intern in a fast pace and rapidly expanding company, I was pleasantly surprised by the responsibility and independence of this internship. From the start of this internship I was given responsibility of my own programme plan. Although I was given a lot of independence to complete this task, I was always welcomed by team members if I had any questions or queries. I was also given great exposure to different areas within the business through other interns.
Support & Guidance
Everyone within my team was kind, encouraging and supportive and I always felt like a valuable member of the team. I am extremely grateful for the support and guidance I received during my internship as I felt everyone within CityFibre went above and beyond for all their summer interns. I was lucky enough to meet team members and my line manager in the Glasgow office where I was offered more guidance and insight into the company. I would like to thank Alex Cain for his time, passing on his knowledge and his approachable nature which made my experience at CityFibre the best it could be.
Culture
CityFibre prides itself on its inclusive culture, rich diversity and their core value called 'The CityFibre Way'. These core values were present within every stream of the organisation and truly reflected on CityFibre's wonderful employees. I was always made to feel part of the team and I had a very positive experience with the company's culture. Everyone I encountered was helpful and welcoming and made me feel as comfortable as possible. I also really appreciated how friendly my team members were making my experience even more enjoyable.
Your Impressions
Upon reflection of my summer internship as a programme planner at CityFibre, I am grateful for an insightful and rewarding experience which I can now integrate into my final years study. The internship exceeded my expectation and was an extremely positive experience. I developed both professional and personal relationships and really enjoyed working with the internal programmes team. Without doubt I would recommend working at CityFibre to anyone and look forward to what the future holds.
Yes
I would encourage anyone to apply to CityFibre. In terms of interview preparation it is important to show your interest in the company and demonstrate your understanding and also show work examples which you think would benefit the company and the role you're applying for. I would also tell people applying to CityFibre to ask lots of questions - this company is filled with industry experts who have years of experience in telecommunications and their views and opinions are very helpful and insightful. What inspired me to join: The people and the culture.
