Overview
Supporting my team on their daily tasks, alongside fulfilling a long-term project aimed to improve the team's performance and efficiency. Daily team meetings, as well as reporting to superiors. I also did catch-ups with employees across the firm as part of my network development.
Skills
Developed Microsoft excel skills extensively, and acquired financial knowledge on equities and derivatives. Otherwise, I learnt how to use several internal GS programs.
Responsibilities
Increasingly. Yet, from the very beginning I noted how my actions had repercussions on others' work, thus getting the sense of teamwork across the regions. I had to communicate daily with senior employees.
Support & Guidance
Enough, and I knew I could ask for more if needed. Notwithstanding, I was assigned a buddy who left the firm soon after I joined, which made me uncomfortable at first as I lost my main point of contact.
Culture
I truly enjoyed the culture at GS, where mostly everyone is willing to devote 15 minutes to interns to offer career advice and present their experiences and work. You are prompted to take on new challenges, which makes it constantly challenging, and in terms of personal development it is very rewarding.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy it. Moving to a different country and experiencing Goldman were definitely the highlights of this summer. Nonetheless, I feel that it felt tedious at some points (it could have been a couple weeks shorter).
Yes
It is highly important to know which positions are present in each office, and the extent to which divisions need new employees. Therefore, networking with people within the firm is a crucial step.
