Overview
My role as an intern within the financial team involved creating positive relationships with colleagues and fellow interns, training sessions, personal project and presentation and responsibilities for my team. These responsibilities included data collection, creating presentations, thinking of ideas and strategies, creating reports and learning how to check financial informations. Carried out a group presentation at the end of the internship to whole teams with a q&a session. Also kept up to do late log of what I learnt/ tasks I carried out.
Skills
I definitely improved my communication and collaboration skills as I met and worked with many new people. My leadership skills as improved as I had specific roles that I was responsible for with my intern group for our project/presentation. Also my general understanding of financial terms increased through training sessions and the work I was carrying out. My skills at using PowerPoint presentation, excel and various other Tesco-systems also improved. Finally, my problem solving and analytical skills as I has to look for improvements and work independently in different tasks.
Responsibilities
I was given a high level of responsibility and worked very independently. The work was important for the rest of the team and was useful, relevant work. I was also responsible for helping to progress the intern group project and presentation. I was responsible for keeping on top of my tasks and managing my team. I was also responsible for making sure I gained as much as possible and kept useful notes from the training sessions.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from my manager, other interns and the graduate in the Finance team that was assigned to me. I found that h the majority of people I worked with were always happy to answer any questions and give support to me when required. I felt that I could have had more support from my fellow interns and my manager who I did not meet that regularly. Overall, I felt well supported however.
Culture
The company was supportive and social in nature. I also liked that there was a drive for new ideas and constantly improving the ways tasks were done. This was something that I strived to work on and embrace. Most people appeared ambitious and proactive but at the same time happy to help and supportive. I felt that most of the colleagues and also general team feeling aligned to the values of the company and that everyone’s different views and feelings were respected.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship. I found that I learnt a lot - both in terms of soft skills, such as collaboration, teamwork and collaboration as well as just more technical skills and a better understanding of financial terms and the financial services industries to at Tesco is involved in. I also made good friends with my fellow interns and would definitely return as a graduate/ I felt well supported and like there would be many opportunities for career growth.

Also, consider whether you would suit Tesco’s as well as Tesco suiting you. Think about which scheme would best suit you and where you would like your career to progress to.
