Overview
Working with a team of experienced engineers on new projects. I was given a lot of ownership of my projects, working on electronic hardware design, systems design and project planning.
Skills
Learnt a lot about design for manufacture as well as learning new project management strategies and new engineering design software.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility to lead a project, from defining the project and managing the team to designing hardware with some supervision from senior engineers.
Support & Guidance
The team was incredibly supportive, while they allowed me to take on a lot of responsibility they were always there when I needed to learn new systems and to offer any help and training I needed to make the most of my year.
Culture
The company atmosphere was supportive and welcoming. Everyone I met was friendly and the flexible hours meant there was a real respect for people’s work life balance. The company culture also encouraged me to reach out to people who were very senior to learn about possible career paths and everyone was happy to offer advice and support where they could.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement immensely, so much so that I applied for a part-time position which I am now doing along side my degree.
Yes
Make sure you have a clear idea of why you want to work for GE before you start your application. As with any application, it should be tailored to the company and show your enthusiasm for the job!
