Overview
My role involved compiling an excel database of climate tech startups. This required me to liaise with VC/PE firms in order to design the tool in line with their requirements. I also had to connect with the various BNEF teams in order to collect the startups under their coverage. Following, I spent most of my time coding the database on excel and making it as user friendly as possible.
Skills
My excel skills improved significantly. Moreover, I had the opportunity to connect with VC Bloomberg clients. This strengthened my interpersonal skills. Moreover, through the weekly analyst meetings I could practice my public speaking skills. Lastly, I acquired a wealth of knowledge about what climate technologies exist and how they work.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given almost complete freedom to self-manage my workload as well as the meetings with our clients. Nonetheless, my supervisor and my team leader were always available and happy to help.
Support & Guidance
I received full support and guidance. This didn't just come from my direct supervisor, but from all of BNEF.
Culture
Very friendly and warm. We were welcomed into the team through training week. This involved a lot of team activities and events which allowed us interns to meet everyone, even BNEF employees in APAC and the Americas.
Your Impressions
It was a great experience, the team went to great lengths to support my integration and the work felt really meaningful. The extracurricular activities were great fun too, from company drinks to the volunteering day.
Yes
Be yourself, the Bloomberg culture is great, yet unique. Bloomberg values cultural fit a lot, thus you want to make sure to be selected because you truly fit, not for whom you pretend to be.
