Overview
The role involves doing sales calls ~70% of the time (i.e. contacting existing and prospective clients), ~20% is training sessions and the remaining ~10% is dedicated to handling Bloomberg terminal usage-related questions from clients.
Skills
I have learned a lot about using the Bloomberg terminal which is extremely valuable towards any profession in finance. I've received a lot of industry-related knowledge, i.e. which type of clients in the financial industry does what and why. Lots of great teamwork experience as well, working on collaborative projects together.
Responsibilities
Quite a lot of responsibility when it comes to doing saleswork, admitted to reaching out directly to clients from one of the very first weeks. However, the responsibility was quite limited on the analytics-related tasks, as we did not receive enough training to be admitted to handle all kinds of clients' queries.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support and guidance offered. Apart from a pair of managers you get access to a couple of mentors. Also, everyone else in the company is very accessible to have quick catch ups and answer any sort of questions, even people at more senior positions.
Culture
The company has a very nice and healthy culture. There are lots of different communities to become a part of, lots of opportunities to network with colleagues from other departments. Very inclusive environment, tremendous focus on philanthropy.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed having the opportunity to work for an industry-leading, extremely innovative and collaborative environment. The internship involved a bit too much sales for my personal liking, but the technical aspect was interesting to me.
Yes
Study Bloomberg as the company and the products and solutions that it offers, this will bring you a long way. Finance knowledge is a plus, but not a must. Be your genuine self and if you are a great fit, you shouldn't have too many problems.
