The Role
Get treated as a collegue not a student, with a few exceptions, which is expected.
Any problems there is always someone to ask for help/guidance from. Friendly team always willing to help and checking before you even ask.
Majority of the time there is a constant flow of work, some days are really hectic and others may die down, but there is always something to do.
To begin with you learn the basics and are eased in, as the managers work load increases then so does yours. You are given ownership of tasks and are expected to see them through.
Generally a placement gives a great insight to the business world and you can see it beyond the text book. I feel I haven't used skills learnt from uni, but I will definately be at an advantage in my final year and beyond due to the placement. i.e organisational skills, long hours, maturity and confidence along with disseration etc
The Company
The team is friendly and gets on well despit a lot of job role changes within the company. Even socialise regularly outside of work.
The placement scheme in Xerox is very organised and clear cut. Always offering help and a change to develop.
In various ways, incentives to encourage this. E.g I became involved in creating Invention Disclosures, which they allow you to take time out of your working day to do this with other placement students and they provide help.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
Xerox is a very large company so if not within this particular role, it could be at another site or in another country. Endless opportunities.
The Culture
There are over 20 placement students and regualr nights out are arranged. Lunch time students always sit together, have tea breaks etc
I lived at home and commuted but restaurants are standard.
Not the best but is close to London.
Collegues have regular activities such as games of Badminton which they always encourage more people to join.
