Overview
A summer analyst - works on live mandates alongside the other bankers in their team - works on 'marketing' for the team ie CVs, credentials, generic slides etc - does a lot of research on companies, the market etc - helps the bankers put together documents eg pitches, information memorandums etc - gets exposure to clients and senior bankers
Skills
Yes. - Excel, power point, all the research tools imaginable - Developed expertise in the sector in which my team specialises - Improved my soft skills - overall every day is a new learning experience
Responsibilities
Yes - put on live mandates, doing a lot of useful work for the ongoing deals - exposure to senior bankers and clients
Support & Guidance
You are expected to take responsibility for yourself/your work early on ie dont ask stupid questions if you can google them But there is guidance and help where you need it ie in areas where you are not expected to know anything All the bankers in my team were very welcoming and friendly
Culture
Difficult to give an accurate judgment because COVID. Relatively empty office. However the company culture seems good /friendly. People in general are friendly and it is a really comfortable atmosphere to work in
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it. Mostly because of my team's particular situation/the people. Invaluable experience in terms of the experience you gain and the people you meet. You get a proper idea of what its like to be an analyst. No photocopying or fetching coffee for seniors, proper work
Yes
Understand the culture well. Be ready to work hard/commit. Be curious and show you are interested and keen (but not too keen)
