Overview
I work alongside designers to build applications for clients and for internal use. I use programming languages such HTML, CSS, JavaScript and frameworks such as Vue.js and React.js. I also get to work with IBM cloud to host these applications. Normally I will work with another developer, pair programming where one of us will be coding and the other person watches and helps out when we get a bug.
Skills
Prior to joining IBM I hardly had any web development skills. Once joining, I have learnt to use HTMl, CSS, JavaScript, React.js, Vue.js and I have also learnt about Red Hat and Data science. In addition to this, I have gained an insight into design thinking and how to run these workshops.
Responsibilities
As soon I started as an intern at IBM I was given a lot opportunities to learn and get involved with projects. This is started of as shadowing and then soon I was able to start coding.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance during my placement from colleagues and managers. It always felt like a safe place to ask questions when I was stuck
Culture
As an intern I felt that the culture at IBM was very welcoming and friendly. Everyone was very nice and was always happy to answer any questions I had and help out. I was always encouraged to constantly learn new skills.
Your Impressions
I very much enjoyed every aspect of my internship, whether that was working with my team on projects or through doing giveback projects. I never felt bored as there was always something to learn or inspiring talks to attend
Yes
Get out of your comfort zone and learn something that is not part of your daily role. This can be done by getting involved in giveback projects or by attending course/programmes ran my other IBMers.
