Overview
I had many different jobs during my 10 weeks - every day was different. I supported the teams that I had joined when they needed help e.g - completing NCOs, looking at the online visibility of products and competition, as well as researching the market and pricing. I also gave insights to the teams about how to target the Gen Z demographic, through presentations and social media research of different products.
Skills
I have learnt many skills during my time. These include: - how to create a visually appealing yet informative presentation - how to make sure research is thorough but concise - how to time manage and balance doing multiple tasks, presentations and deliveries at once - how to work in a professional environment online, as the majority of my work has been done virtually due to teams - how to ask lots of questions but also be proactive as the business is very busy
Responsibilities
As the internship went on, I was given more responsibilities as I got used to the business and started to come into the office more. I have been given the responsibility of communicating with clients and making sure that the orders that they require have been processed, packaged and sent out. I have also had the responsibility of presenting to the entire marketing team several times, which meant that it had to be completed to a really high standard.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support during my internship - I always had my line manager or other people in the team to message if I was stuck or needed a question answered. My presentations and tasks were generally checked and I was given feedback on how to improve throughout the process. However, due to the fact that my internship was short, I joined at the busiest part of the year and I wasn't in the office, sometimes I felt a bit separate from the rest of the team and sometimes the people I looked to were very busy.
Culture
I really enjoyed the general company culture of L'oreal - everyone I spoke to was really friendly and many people reached out to me when I first started or were happy to catch up if I reached out to them. It would have been nice to be in the office more with everyone to get a better feel for it though. I admire aspects of L'oreal's culture like Citizen's Day - it was really good to engage with the local community.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement and I have learnt so much in a short space of time. It was great to be involved the business and to engage with the market. I really like how L'oreal involves their interns and makes them feel like their ideas are valuable. It was very rewarding when a task I had been working on received good feedback or ideas were taken into consideration. The only thing I feel that could be improved were the social opportunities (I know this was probably limited by corona) but I feel like I didn't really meet any other interns or people my age.
Yes
I would say be keen and engaged with the company and the market - show that you want to be there. I would say to ask lots of questions if you are unsure but to also be proactive - if you back yourself just do the task as it will speed up the process. I would also say network and try to meet as many people as possible.
