Overview
Each day of the insight included a morning session dedicated to learning about NatWest Group and 'Our Purpose', giving an overview at the three pillars: Learning, Enterprise, and Sustainability. These sessions were normally followed by presentations on wellbeing and employee networks at the firm by graduates and managers, and activities to give us the chance to discuss with peers in breakout rooms. Our last sessions were normally business area specific and further networking opportunities.
Skills
I have gained new skills in business development through our entrepreneurship and pitch activities as well as understanding the practices of a learning organization. I have further developed skills in networking and problem solving.
Business Insight
The Change and Business Solutions area I was based in had varied roles and skillsets - this appeals to anyone who enjoys learning and innovation. The Group's company culture plays a big role in the projects it focuses on and in the areas of improvement the Changes team looks for.
Culture
The NatWest Group company culture was a major source of inspiration for the current employees we met, and I would definitely work in this kind of professional environment. The Group's purpose was evident in the training we completed and in the one-to-one conversations we had within our business areas, showing how every role at the bank has the same opportunities of contributing to society.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the opportunities to get to know the bank and my business area during this insight week. There were activities where we could work in groups and get to know peers across business areas, and quick-fire networking sessions with graduates who answered any of our questions about what it's like to work at NatWest.
Yes
The application is long, but shortens your assessment period later in applying for the summer internship. This is definitely an opportunity worth applying to as it gives you an insight into the bank and into the business area you apply for. The platforms used to facilitate the program are also very useful, and the Early Careers team is very engaging.
