Overview
We gained more insight into the culture, purpose and goals of the bank. We had hour-long sessions with either the whole cohort or within our individual business areas to learn more about the technical and more personal side of the bank, in addition to meeting and networking with lots of new people. We met graduates and learnt about the networks they are in within the bank in addition to their day jobs.
Skills
I developed my team working skills - the sessions they provided were very interactive, which was incredibly useful as the insight week was online so it was really nice discussing situations and working with the other people on the insight week. I have also learnt a lot about softer skills, such as critical thinking and being adaptable/ready towards change due the high emphasis on the CPCs that NatWest Group places.
Business Insight
It was very informative and insightful. There was a huge variety of different roles discussed, and what was incredibly interesting was each individual person had taken up many different roles in the bank previously so from just one person we found out a lot about potential roles in the bank. It was not too technical and very easy to understand and keep up with, especially since question asking was highly encouraged.
Culture
It was formal yet very relaxed. Everyone was incredibly approachable and easy to talk to - you did not feel intimated to ask questions even in the larger group settings. The company culture really seems to value every individual and their personal development. Everyone seemed very passionate and enthusiastic to discuss their jobs and other networks/activities they participate in within the bank. It was very inclusive.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight week. I will definitely be applying to the internship as NatWest Group really appeals to me and my specifications and is somewhere I would love to work in the future. The sessions were all good lengths so you never felt as though they were being dragged out or you felt fatigued. All in all it was a very enjoyable and insightful week
Yes
Definitely show a lot of passion and interest for you business area and for the interview just be yourself and try and relate the questions to your personal experiences in addition to academic experiences. Also do not worry too much about the numerical and other assessments you’re required to do at the beginning, there’s not much you can do to prepare so just try your best!
