Overview
- Assisting Analysts and Associates in updating decks (marketing and live deals) - Note taking in meetings - Carrying out several ad-hoc tasks for seniors from logo fetching to doing comparables analysis - Working on and updating background material databases (investor strips, Precedent Transaction financials etc)
Skills
Yes, many. PowerPoint and Excel skills highly developed. Also increased speed and efficiency of note taking and typing. Also better at thinking critically at what the task required to complete it efficiently. More directly as part of the TMT team , my knowledge of the Technology sector greatly expanded too.
Responsibilities
Had a lot of responsibility towards the end of the internship after I established myself as a reliable individual. Given that you always remain transparent and provide updates, there is a lot of responsibility that can be given, alongside a lot of feedback. Ability to learn a lot from doing, as opposed to observing, especially on a virtual internship setting.
Support & Guidance
Most seniors were VERY helpful and supportive, however a select few were always too busy to help or explain and often didn't spend the time explaining the task in one go, requiring many repeats and inefficient use of time. Apart from that 90% of the time the team was extremely helpful
Culture
Very very supportive and helpful. Always happy and eager to make sure I was working on something and learning. They were keen to make sure that everyone felt like a peer as opposed to a hierarchical structure.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot, although the first 4 weeks were very limited in terms of experience given the overlap with Off-cycle interns. This limited the experience and exposure we were given.
Yes
Please approach the job knowing that it will be an intense experience. Jefferies is a lot more responsibility oriented and there will be a lot of opportunity to take initiatives - please indicate that this is something you are up for as opposed to someone who wants to shy away from work.
