Overview
I had various jobs including researching the companies covered, comparing Jefferies estimates to consensus estimates, and writing client-focused notes of research.
Skills
In the week-long training course we were offered, I learnt many Excel hacks, as well as how to value stocks. On the job itself, I massively developed my people skills, and learnt a lot more about the two particular sectors I worked with. I have also learnt how to measure the accuracy of our estimates, and concisely convey our research to clients.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot more responsibility than I ever thought I would be. In my first few weeks, my research was included in emails sent to clients.
Support & Guidance
I received the perfect amount of support and guidance. I did not feel like my hand was being held, nor that I was being given way too much to do. It was a perfect inbetween of feeling intellectually challenged, but not being nervous about not knowing what to do.
Culture
The atmosphere was friendly, intellectually stimulating, with a very flat structure. Anyone was happy to speak to me, no matter how high up (Associates, MDs). Everyone seemed grateful to have us interns, and really made sure we were getting the best from the experience too.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship. The 10 weeks flew by, and I got to cover a breadth of sectors, including one that I would not think to have joined beforehand.
Yes
Make sure you keep an open mind with regards to which sectors you want to join, as all of them are great in different ways. As cheesy as it sounds, be yourself, as this will help you fit into the right team.
