The Role
I really enjoyed my time with the firm. The staff were lovely as were the offices.
I was invited to take part in lots of activities. I sat in on client interviews, was able to sit in on discussions with barristers and even had the chance to travel to the RCN with a partner!
Both my supervisors and task setters were helpful, approachable and friendly. I have stayed in touch with some of them.
I started at 9am and finished at 5.30pm everyday. Throughout the day there wasn't a moment when I was bored or had nothing to do.
I was able to assess quantum, interview clients, read case reports and train with the partners.
Even though I have received a training contract elsewhere in the commercial sector, I will take the skills with me that I attained on this placement.
The Company
The office was friendly from the partners to the cleaners. The office was modern and light, right in the middle of the city centre.
I was always kept busy. There wasn't a moment where I had nothing to do, or where a member of staff was giving me a task.
As mentioned above, I was given a multitude of opportunities and I responded to everyone. I particularly enjoyed how much client contact the firm gave me on a weeks placement.
The firm has the approach that you work as a paralegal and then after three years service you are considered for a training contract. Whilst I don't like this particular approach I can understand why the firm takes it in the current legal climate.
The Culture
The staff go for drinks and lunch together and by the sounds of it they are all gym buddies and regular zumba attendees!
Sheffield has always been a very affordable city to live in. It is no where near the cost of London, and is slightly cheaper than Manchester and Leeds.
Sheffield has a variety of bars and clubs, as well as restaurants and cafes.
As I was the only student on placement that week, there wasn't much of a focus of student nights out or socials.
