Overview
My role involved completing 4 stock pitches across 4 different sectors. I was responsible for researching companies, forming an investment thesis and creating the accompanying financial model. I also dialled in to several internal sector calls to better understand different industries.
Skills
I had minimal field experience when starting the internship, so the steep learning curve taught me the core skills needed to excel, namely research consolidation, financial analysis and modelling. I also greatly improved on my interpersonal communication, presentation and time management skills.
Responsibilities
I had full ownership over the tasks provided, although the tasks themselves had minimal impact on the firm and served more as training exercises.
Support & Guidance
I was supported at every level. I had a buddy (an early careers graduate) and a mentor (portfolio manager), as well as my line manager. Everyone was generous with their time and I never felt discouraged from asking questions. Additionally, all of the analysts in the office were also willing to help wherever they could.
Culture
Everyone is extremely intelligent yet kind and learning-oriented. I enjoyed my work conversations (both formal and informal) and genuinely felt like a part of the firm during the summer. I also appreciate the focus on work-life balance and giving back to the community.
Your Impressions
It was a very intense program, but I enjoyed all aspects of the internship, both regarding the work itself and the relationships cultivated during the period.
Yes
Be genuine throughout your application. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the company as you are also trying to determine “fit”. Demonstrate a hunger to learn and do not be discouraged if you lack formal experience.
