    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was placed in a software development team and my day-to-day tasks involved working on small development tasks as part of the projects the team was working on. The team met regularly and had daily standups so everyone had an idea of what they would be working on and what their progress had been. As an intern I had the opportunity to be part of multiple pair programming sessions which were very insightful!

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • The bank provides plenty of learning materials and resources to interns. The training provided at the beginning of the internship helps in learning a lot about the bank as well as the industry as a whole. The internship helped me develop not only technical skills such as Java, React but also helped improve my communication and team work skills. My role also helped me learn about how a dev team works and its agile practices.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Interns are provided with adequate projects and responsibility during their time at the bank. Everyone is invested in the learning and growth of the interns who have joined for a short period of time. Interns have projects within the team as well as outside the team they are part of. Taking initiative to work on additional tasks and projects is always appreciated and the bank ensures that the interns are supported in all the tasks and projects they take on!

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Deutsche Bank's support system set up for interns was excellent. We were assigned a mentor and a buddy within the bank who we could reach out to whenever we needed help and support. Within the team we were in, the interns had multiple managers or supervisors as well as buddies who we could reach out to for guidance on our day-to-day tasks or projects. This made it very comfortable for us to ask questions, get help and steer ourselves in the right direction. Everyone was equally invested in supporting our growth and were always there to help!

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very people centric and one could find internal groups and communities within the bank. The bank introduced us interns to different networks that we could be involved in as well as its initiatives to make Deutsche Bank a more diverse and inclusive bank. Interns had the opportunity to be a part of a virtual Corporate Social Responsibility Day which was an enriching experience. The general atmosphere was very warm and welcoming.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Deutsche Bank
  • Apply early and ensure that you are prepared for the interviews, both behavioral and technical. Make sure you conduct research about the bank and know exactly why you want to join it. The most important thing is to be yourself throughout the process as Deutsche Bank values authenticity and wants to see if you are someone who would integrate with the people at the bank.
