Overview
The Virtual Experience was organised by Jefferies International for students graduating 2023 who are considering an internship role at Jefferies. It was a very informative session as the speakers touched on the key business segments and also had employees in different groups talk about the company wide efforts in making the world a better place for everyone. Driving growth through diversity, inclusion and and open space for people to connect and share their stories. They had a very much diverse team who clearly touched upon the key things to look out for when applying and also had time to answer lot of questions from aspirants. It was a wonderful experience overall and one I would recommend anyone else
Skills
Oh yes. Two employees spoke about Imposter Syndrome and how they dealt with it and I've learnt that you just need to put yourself out there. Believe in yourself and put in the work. Overall, I've learnt to be more confident and willing to learn
Business Insight
It was very informative and detailed. The different speakers touched upon their business segments and what I particular like about their presentation is how they mentioned the growth of the industry and what differentiates them from others
Culture
It was an atmosphere of open discussion and support for the people in the firm. From the employees, I learnt that they have an open ended system where Juniors can speak directly to senior level executives and are included in big teams so as to enable their growth at a much shorter time frame by learning on the job. This is very helpful as it allows entry level analyst gain realtime experience and access to mentorship.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the event. The major highlight of the event for me was getting to know that one of the speakers was someone from my ethnic background. This gave me great confidence in the diversity at the firm and the company's culture of inclusivity
Yes
I would advise that they carefully construct their essay and emphasize upon how been from a diverse background has affected their career. It is also okay to reach out to folks who have attempted such and get their opinions on the essay. A well crafted CV is also expected. It should be tailored to the role and the important points that align with the role.
