Overview
A five day programme during which students learn about Natwest, the company's purpose, the business area you selected, with the opportunity to network with colleagues across the business. Each day was a half day, with a series of presentations on different aspects of the business, ranging from company purpose, employee-led networks and business area specific sessions. Many of the sessions were interactive, involving Zoom break-out rooms in which attendees discussed their ideas together.
Skills
One of the most valuable skills I developed during the Insight Week was my presentation skills. We received a summary PowerPoint detailing some of the most effective ways to deliver pithy and impactful presentations, and we able to try these methods out for ourselves during the session in front of small groups of other attendees.
Business Insight
The business was portrayed in a very positive light. Personally, I felt it was great to learn about some of the 'extra-curricular' things that make for a better corporate environment including employee-led networks, CSR activities and Natwest's commitment to minimising their impact on climate change. In terms of explaining the potential roles at NatWest, this was delivered well - there were networking sessions run by Graduates and employees in each business area.
Culture
The company culture and atmosphere came across positively during the week. All Graduates and employees who delivered sessions to attendees were happy with the corporate environment and felt NatWest had made positive steps towards changing its company environment for the better over the past few years.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the experience. I learnt not only about NatWest, but about company cultures in general. The sessions were interactive, and focused not only on explaining employees' everyday jobs but also other aspects of working at NatWest like employee-led networks. I think there was room to make the days longer and cover more, especially as there were very few business-area specific sessions. I don't feel I learnt much about my business area (Internal Audit).
Yes
Think about the values that NatWest feel are most important (eg respect and inclusivity), and how your values align to those. Sell yourself on how your capabilities will contribute to the business and how you would like to further develop these critical capabilities.
