Overview
Engaging with key partners and members to exhibit the ABI’s value proposition and help support client relations. Contributing towards to research pieces on industry initiatives. Optimising the CRM database through data analytics and research. Researching ongoing industry developments - presenting findings via a weekly presentation and my own newsletter that was delivered to staff and Associate Members. Using member engagement analytics from Power BI. Representing the ABI at external events. Ad-hoc projects of varying sizes.
Skills
Through the diverse range of projects I worked on, I improved my analysis and research skills and learnt to effectively time manage and prioritise. Due to the nature of the role, I was also given lots of opportunities to improve my public speaking and networking skills which I felt was very valuable.
Responsibilities
Yes - although you will only ever have as much as you feel comfortable with. The team is attentive and patient which allows you to build up your confidence and become at ease with any tasks that may require a lot of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I had regular catch-ups with my line manager which made me feel supported and guided at all points. There is also access to a buddy throughout the internship who is there to help you with more general problems. The HR department is also really approachable and happy to help.
Culture
Great company culture - everybody I came across in the company is friendly and were always happy to help. ABI employees work hard for the company while still maintaining a human face and ensuring fun along the way (via socials etc).
Your Impressions
Very much. It felt worthwhile as I was able to get a unique insight into the role of a trade association and the current state of the insurance industry. It allowed me to enhance my soft and hard skills while gaining exposure and working on meaningful projects. The placement also helped me to gain a more specialised focus for my career and a new found confidence!
