Responsibilities
Was handed a project that was deemed to be 'important but not urgent'. I.e., it was incredibly relevant to the business but they hadn't found time to deal with it. Was given full autonomy over the project and allowed to make my own decisions with my manager acting as guidance rather than having the final say. I was given a lot of responsibility from day 1.
Support & Guidance
Daily meetings with manager allowed me to receive support and guidance quickly and effectively. Also received welcoming support from others within the firm who were very eager to help when I reached out to them and offered support very quickly and were happy to take time out of their day to help.
Culture
Incredibly welcoming. The culture was very focused on helping each other out. It didn't feel competitive at all and this enabled people to feel like they could and should be helping each other and everyone was very reciprocative in that respect. Everyone was also very understanding of people's unique situations and always very accommodating with such situations.
Your Impressions
Despite being WFH due to the pandemic, I thoroughly enjoyed the internship. They made a huge effort for the work to be engaging and diverse. I felt I met (virtually) a large number and variety of people within the company who enhanced my experience. My manager and the rest of my support team were incredibly friendly and keen to help me develop as a professional regardless of if I chose to come back.
Yes
Be yourself. They truly aren't looking for students with expertise or experience since it is so difficult to acquire. Rather they are looking for smart individuals who are keen to learn and they feel can make a valuable contribution with their new ideas and way of thinking.
