Overview
As I sat with various departments my days varied. Some days I would be reviewing legal documents, working on projects, sitting in client calls and talking to various senior lawyers in different departments in the bank. I also had personal development sessions twice a week where we were able to speak to guest speakers in the bank and learn about our own professional development.
Skills
I was definitely able to expand on a lot of my skills such as : networking, time management, organisation, team work, public speaking, research skills, analysis skills. I also gained some new skills such as condensing legal documents and reviewing huge legal documents.
Responsibilities
During my time at Wells Fargo I had to input data into a project which was important as it had to be correct. Furthermore I had to write a brief note on the Senior Management Regime which was an important document the bank needed. I also had to condense a 200 page consultation paper into 2 by the FCA for Asset management. Therefore I had to make sure I analysed the document properly.
Support & Guidance
A lot! Everyone in legal were extremely supportive and welcoming. I also had a few buddies from departments I worked with which made it extremely easy to revive guidance and help. Everyone I met at Wells Fargo wanted to help, no one said no or dismissed me.
Culture
Wells Fargo had a manageable work hard culture. Not only that everyone at Wells Fargo were extremely friendly, helpful and easy to work with. Although I was a first year law student, I never felt judged or looked down upon as I worked with senior lawyers.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Wells Fargo. I will always be grateful for having the opportunity to work with hardworking in house senior lawyers.
Yes
Do not feel intimidated and always reach out to all departments in the bank. Although it may seem daunting my experience levelled up when I took the initiative to network outside the teams I was put into. With those that you meet always ask them if they can involve you in any work or projects!
