The Role
The placement has been a fantastic opportunity to grow as an individual as well as gain experience in a large organisation like Xerox. I feel I have made the most out of the placement and would advise people to try and find a placement with Xerox.
The team worked well together and we all got on. It was a good mixture of people and when the team was a head down, this made the team pull together in order to keep on top of work load.
If I ever need support with uni work or general day to day work i could approach managers and they would be happy to assist. In Xerox your not treated as a student, you are treated as an employee which makes the experience better.
I had a balanced work load as when other team members were busy i would offer to help and 9 times out of 10 they would offload work on to me. But i was never without something to do.
I role is what you make it, you can take on as much as you feel possible. I took on as much as possible as this was a fantastic opportunity to learn and gain experience from senior members within the company.
The skills i have learnt are both academic and business orientated. Training i have learnt is very specific to the job however i can take little parts of the overall role and i can apply them to my final year.
The Company
Fantastic people around me, treated me as an employee and not the student. Always up fior a laugh and was always a joy going into work.
Couldn't fault the set up, as its been a rolling position for the past few years the position has grown along with the responsibilities.
The training that i have received has been great and the student does what the rest of the team do, so you feel aprt of it. There are online courses which help the personal development and these are largely encouraged.
Company Parties/Events
I would like to think that the company would take me back and unfortunately due to the economic climate a head freeze has been put in place, so maybe once i have graduated the economic downturn will be on the up and there will be a vacany available.
The Culture
There was always a night out every week, with different students as there are over 60 students at the Uxbridge campus alone. So there is a good social scene and every year a booze cruise to top it off.
Being greater London, it can be expensive living with average rent between 325-450. Then going out will be london prices, so it can be expensive.
Not the best, but there is central london just hop on the tube. So there is a lot around uxbridge but its just getting there.
5-a-side footie was popular with the guys and the permanant employees like a game against the students.
