Overview
An events officer helps to plan, organise, co-ordinate and implement various events for the different brands, these can be physical or digital events, small or larger events. Also responsible for controlling the events team's budgets and payment processes. Liaising with many stakeholders who are involved in the projects including colleagues, suppliers, agencies, external associates and many more! The role is very exciting and no two days are the same!
Skills
My soft skills are the ones I developed the most because every day i was communicating via the phone, on emails, on meetings or in person with various different people. My time management and excel skills have also been developed. I have learnt how to use SAP to pay suppliers and developed my budgetary control skills as these were tasks i was completing most days.
Responsibilities
Yes- from the start I was given full responsibility for the events budgets and payment processes, although daunting at first it was a great way to understand the process from start to finish. I was also heavily involved in each project throughout the placement, this meant i was able to constantly learn and develop my knowledge. The events team is only small therefore I was treated like any other member and given the same levels of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
I received so much support and guidance from my immediate team who i worked closely with each day and from wider team. Everybody was always happy to answer any questions I had or help me whenever i needed it. It was also nice to speak to fellow placement students in different departments.
Culture
The culture is very supportive, everyone is happy to help each other and work together. I largely worked from home but still felt very included when interacting with different teams despite never meeting most people in person!
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and the work i was doing. Despite working from home and the events industry being very quiet due to Covid, i was still able to be involved in very exciting projects including vehicle press launches, digital conferences, training sessions and national exhibitions and shows. I really enjoyed the variety that came with the role and the fast pace work involved.
