    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I worked with people in several areas of the banking sector to help design and implement a new computer system to help support other departments in the private banking sector.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • This internship was fantastic it connected and correlated most of my classes from university. Building our social skills in speeding to end users and identifying their requests and requirements. We learned a lot about time management and meeting the deadlines we set ourselves to satisfy the end users. We learnt new coding languages and environments and grew very comfortable presenting our work on a weekly basis to a wide range of bank employees.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • We were put into a team of interns to work collectively to build a system to be used in the private banking sector. This project was our collective responsibility to build and work on to meet the end users requirements in a timely manner.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Our line manager was fantastic he checked in with us daily to make sure we had access to systems we required. He connected us with a range of professional employees who provided us insight into the new systems we where using. He provided us feed back and was always able to make time for us in any occasion we required it.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • It was predominantly on zoom due to Covid however every single person we spoke to was polite and a delight to meet and network with. My fellow interns were fantastic and I have made some life long friends from this experience.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I loved having the opportunity to research a project, talk to end users for our system, network with employees to gain an understanding of the systems we would be working with, deciding what systems would best fit the requirements for the system we had designed to build. For their I loved learning the new coding languages and environments and how the placement connected together so many aspects of my uni degree.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Barclays
  • Take risks and chances. Present to groups of people where ever possible and take a real interest in your fellow employees, they know a lot professionally and are more than willing to help and support you where ever they can. Give it your all every day and don’t be scared to ask questions. It’s the best way to learn and grow your own skills and knowledge.
