    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was exposed to different divisions of information technology at Jefferies. I worked with several teams on concrete projects. I also had the chance to meet senior leaders during this summer internship, which was a great opportunity to learn from their experience and get insight into their work.

  • I have developed both my technical and personal skills during this internship. I was trained from the beginning and gained valuable knowledge about finance and technology in the banking industry by interacting with very experienced colleagues.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was able to make an impact on every team I worked with during my internship. My mentors gave me the chance to work on concrete projects. They trusted me and believed in my ability to deliver, even as an intern. Through all the catch-up meetings, I was able to push myself and refine my ideas. I always kept in mind the goal behind the small tasks I was doing which is very motivating.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My managers took the time to introduce me to the division and give me an overview of their work. My mentors were always there to teach me new concepts and set up a meeting to discuss my ideas for the projects I was working on. All of the colleagues on my team or other teams that I contacted and interviewed were very welcoming and took the time to answer my questions.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Being able to work in such a diverse environment with people of different cultures, races, ethnicities, and genders made me feel very comfortable and welcomed. All the interns were very friendly. I had a good relationship with some of them throughout the internship and afterward.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • The work ethic and culture at Jefferies is truly impressive and is the reason for the bank's strength and continued growth. It is definitely an environment where I see myself working, learning and developing my skills. Clients always come first, that's really the philosophy at the heart of Jefferies.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Jefferies International
  • Go for it. The experience really exceeded my expectations. The culture and the environment are amazing. You will learn a lot, both technically and personally. Always be yourself, ask questions and be proactive. There are no stupid questions.
