Overview
I was a technology developer, and my daily role was to attend a standup, and work with a team of interns to produce a automation tool relating to AWS technologies.
Skills
I have developed my soft skills having to work in a team, and developed my ability to work in a remote situation. I was also introduced to AWS Technologies which is now something I would like to delve into further.
Responsibilities
We were given a project brief and told that we had to plan our own time to get the MVP produced in time, whilst also having to organise out own meetings and do training as it was a new technology.
Support & Guidance
Our line manager was always happy to help, and we were also allocated a buddy. Everyone was always happy to help and put aside time whenever they could to offer any help and clear any doubt.
Culture
I really liked the atmosphere! There was never a sense of hierarchy, as when talking to Directors or MD's it would never feel as if you are being looked down upon. Everyone was always happy to answer questions and always put in time to ensure that everyone had a good understanding of what was going on.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement. It was nice to work with new people and work on a technology that I wouldn't have com across if I wasn't in the industry. It was rewarding to have a final product which would be used by actual developers, and I learnt many things which would not usually be taught or gained at university.
Yes
Be very open-minded. Just be willing to give anything a go as regardless of what you end up doing, you will always learn something new and come away with some kind of new skill, or further development.
