Overview
I was an intern in operations. I spent most of my time on calls with colleagues in order to write a report on quality assurance together with three other interns. In general, one should expect to have frequent calls with their line managers and buddies.
Skills
Absolutely. I have honed my presenting skills, learnt how to effectively work in a team alongside three other interns, and developed my networking abilities.
Responsibilities
Not too much. Because of the nature of a two-month internship, and because I was new to the business, I was not given much responsibility. However, I was responsible for the report I worked on as well as the presentations I delivered.
Support & Guidance
I was supported all throughout my internship by colleagues, my line manager, and my buddy. Especially the buddy plays an important role during the internship, as you can always ask them questions and they are very helpful in offering solutions and support.
Culture
The company culture was perfect. I even volunteered to deliver a presentation on Barclays values, purpose, and mindset. As a matter of fact, I believe that such values and mindset are really at the core of how the company does its business. Everyone was very welcoming and I never felt mistreated.
Your Impressions
The two months I spent interning at Barclays were very fulfilling and enjoyable. As I repeatedly said to my colleagues as well as other friends, I would love to go back to work at Barclays.
Yes
Apply as soon as you can. Given the sheer number of applications that Barclays receive, open positions get filled quite quickly. Moreover, study the company and the business it does before the interview, as it will definitely be a matter of discussion.
