    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily team catch-up, go through tasks for the day and any progress made Spend time analysing data and general project work for data governance of reports Various training courses provided by Barclays Daily 121 catch-up with line manager to check on progress, any issues faced etc. Meeting with various members of the team to expedite project work

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Some of the technical skills I developed further was making use of SQL, Tableau and Qlikview as well as learning about Big Data platforms such as Hadoop Project management and communication were also key skills which I developed by working on projects as a team Problem solving wen tackling difficult tasks Critical Analysis in order to gain valuable insights from data

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, I was given responsibility for a large project and was tasked with making as much progress as I could on it before I left I was given responsibility to tackle the large project the way I though best I was able to leave a small impact on the business after helping to improve the report management system thanks to my work

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of support and guidance, I had daily catch-ups with my line manager to update on my progress as well as highlight any concerns or issues I was facing I had a large team which I could contact via email or Skype and everyone was very happy to support and help The HR Programme Delivery team were also incredibly supportive with any concerns or issues I was facing

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone was incredibly supportive and easy to talk to. I felt that I could email anyone in the company despite my position and I would get a valuable and helpful response. Being remote for the entire period was difficult however, the programme delivery team gave their best effort in providing as much networking sessions and speaker sessions as possible.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I worked hard and therefore I felt I gained a massive amount from my experience and widened my skillset and technical expertise. I met some really great people and was given plenty of responsibility to make a valuable impact.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Barclays
  • Throw yourself in the deep end, work hard and seize all the opportunities that you can. You will have plenty of support but ultimately your experience with the company is what you make of your time there. If you make an effort to network and communicate with others, everyone else will reciprocate this and be willing to help.
